My husband just had surgery for head and neck cancer and is getting ready to start radiation and chemo. Do you have any advice based on your own experiences that would be helpful to us.

Mia- my husband has stage 4 esophageal cancer. He wasn't able to have surgery because it's too wide spread. Chemo is tough. There are so many different types, and each with it's own yuck of side effects. Expect that there will be nausea and fatigue. Ask lots of questions. Then ask more questions. Keep a notebook of what is happening, who said what. It can be very overwhelming if you are not organized.

Try to line up some help for you for chemo day and a day or two after. Having some one bring you dinner on a long stressful day is great! After a while, it'll become more routine.

Expect the unexpected. Don't stress the small stuff.
