This could be a good question to post to the network. See my previous post on how to do this.
Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): diagnosis came as a complete surprise to me & docs. No symptoms - this is considered very rare since I have regular check-ups with NO SYMPTOMS. 4 yrs. ago was diagnosed with peri-anal Paget's disease for which I had surgery to remove all of the malignant cells - nothing invasive. Have been followed regularly since then by doc - nothing to report & was told didn't need to come every 3 months anymore - once a year sufficient. Went to dermatologist in early Nov. for my annual complete physical - checked anal area & was told there was a suspicious spot that should be biopsied even though she was sure it was nothing. Told her I wanted to see my colon-rectal doc for another opinion. He said same thing but decided to biopsy just to ease both of our minds. Results came back suspicious so that began a round of tests - 1st colonoscopy - only removed a couple of non-cancerous polyps - no colon cancer so that indicated a need for PET scan - that showed areas that lit up so then small tissue biopsies of inguinal area. Final diagnosis Stage IV metastatic cancer that has spread to liver & some small areas in inguinal area with point of origin the anal/rectal area. Have had one chemo treatment so far - was scheduled for another last week BUT blood test results showed white blood count too low to safely administer another chemo treatment at that time so waiting 'til next Tues. for another blood test to see what's next! I have been healthy all of my life - been very diligent about getting all necessary preventive care & viola - Stage IV cancer - BUMMER!!!!
