I'm writing in regaurds to my wife whom has the cancer in her throat. I'm doing all I can to support her and trying to keep the income going. I'm having a very difficult time trying to keep up with the bills with the added expense of travel. Is there anyway to get some help with this. We have to travel approx. 75 miles to the UW Hospital of Madison, WI. I've been cutting back on everything I can but, just can't seem to get ahead. I need help. I'm at a lose here. I can't let my wife worry about our financial problems. M main priority is to get her to her treatments. My last pay check was barely enough to pay the current bills with nothing left over for gas for the car. I don't know what to do anymore. Please Help!!!

      Hi Mike,

I'm sorry you and your wife are going through this, and that you are dealing with the financial issues alone. That's a heavy load. Fortunately, there are resources that can help. In terms of gas and rides to treatment, the American Cancer Society offers gas cards and coordinates rides to treatment. You can contact them at 800--227--2345. The number is also to the right and bottom of this page.

We recently ran a blog post about dealing with the costs of cancer with some helpful tips: http://blog.whatnext.com/blog/peer-perspectives/9-tips-for-dealing-with-the-financials-of-cancer

Another great resource is http://www.GiveForward.com. They are an online fundraising resource that specializes in helping to raise funds to defray medical costs.

Also, you might want to consider posting this in our Questions section. You can do this by clicking on Questions in the blue bar above.

Please let me know if you need other suggestions. We are happy to help.
