These feelings are cause by the oxaliplatin - it's the strong medicine that is effective for colorectal cancer. I got my husband to take things out of the frig and freezer. I avoided drinking cold drinks. I bundled up to go outside. Wear gloves for simple things like opening the card door and putting your hands on the steering wheel. Be sure to tell your oncologist - the goal is to keep you on the oxaliplatin while minimizing the side effects. Best wishes to endure the cure.

Hi there, I'm new also. Had a right hemicolectomy Jan 17 and told stage 3. Port installed just Monday. Start FOLFOX chemo 3/12, next wk. Hoping for the best, I will be a week behind you. I am slated for 12 rounds. Any advice is appreciated!

I just had my 3rd round today and the side effects stated before I left the appointment. It seems to get just a little worse each round but after the 5th or 6th days it starts to get much better and I have several great days before it starts over. I am having the jaw pain, tingling/claw in hands, heartburn(never had this before) nose bleeds, and just really tired. But I will say a positive attitude is your best medicine-do not let your mind get the best of you- you can do this - I have one more Chemo round then 6 weeks of radiation/chemo together then another 4 rounds of just Chemo- more concerned about the radiation but I just keep telling my self it’s just another bump in the road and God is on my side! I will say I was one of the 2% of patients to have complications with surgery as my bowls did not want wake up keeping me in the hospital an extra 3 days and with getting my port which was supposed to be in an out put me in hospital for 3 days so I have been through the ringer but every day I I’m one day closer to the end of treatment and just knowing that I smile and find something to laugh about each and everyday!
Prayers for you and best of luck!
