Welcome to the Cancer Club, a very supportive and caring club that no one wants to join, but once they do, they will do anything to help another member! This is the Cancer Club sub-group, Melanoma! This is a great site for information and support.

I was diagnosed 16 years ago this August. Surgery-radiation-Interferon for a year. I have had basal cells since but nothing coming close to melanoma. I am willing to answer any questions anyone with melanoma may have. Congratulations on fighting the good fight for so many years! I too am over 60 years old.

Loss (Lost loved one): 6 months after I was diagnosed, at the age of 52, my sister was diagnosed with metastatic colon cancer, at the age of 41, and was given 6-12 months to live. Throughout her treatments she was dogged in her determination to live. With Western medicine and alternative treatments, she made it to 35 months. She has been gone 10 years and 9 months. She left a 9 year old daughter who was raised by our other sister. She is now 19 and in her freshman year of college. Lots of therapy needed and received!!!!

Decision Point (I had to decide whether or not to take the Interfuro.): My doc said that the only thing they had as a treatment after surgery was Interferon. He said they did not have definitive evidence that it did control the melanoma, and that some people did well and others not. I felt that if I did not do it and it came back I would be angry with myself that I did NOT do it. So I did it and for me it was a "no brainer" decision!
