hi, the chemo seemed to be going well while i was at oncology, and then on drive home i started feeling sick and when i got home i started puking and have huge headache. I was sent home with the pump for two days. What kind of complications did you have? I had a esophogus stricture so was unable to eat or drink for 6 weeks til they found what was wrong and fixed it. Had a feeding tube and that was miserable in itself. The illeostomy reversal went fine and glad its over. I do have a few issues with pooping alot. Seems like i always have to go. Not diarrea but just a little bit comes out at a time all day long. doc says it is normal, just takes awhile for system to get back to normal. I couldnt have done this chemo without having the reversal, no way in XXX. I hope all goes well with you. I stayed in hospital 4 days after surgery and 5 days after reversal. Keep in touch if you can or would like to compare notes on your treatment. If you would prefer to email me my email address is [email redacted] and my name is Lisa. Thanks for your response to me on here

Hello. I'm not sure I'm even doing this page right. I messed up all that first part of it. :-( But thank you for writing. Yeah I too was hoping to be able to talk to someone that is going thru what I am as I haven't been able to find anyone yet.
I had my 1st Colonoscopy on May 10, 2012. (One month before I turned 54!} They found a tumor inside my rectum & so biopsies were taken of it & it came back as cancerous. Stage II-C. Did you have a tumor also? What stage were you?
I started 6 weeks of radiation therapy with chemo therapy the 1st week & the 5th week. {To shrink the tumor before surgery.} The chemo infusion done was 5 days of the 5-FU drug. I wore a pump that dripped the drug into me from Mon to Fri around the clock.
My surgery was on Aug 20th & I have a temporary Ileostomy also. I still need to get my reversal Surgery scheduled but have been so sore. Wondering if you had the same issues as me with the "bottom" pain?
I was totally blind-sided last week by the news of NOW needing 8 rounds of Chemo Therapy!! I was NEVER told this by my Oncologists.
You are starting chemo {folfox} this week?
That sounds like the same route that I am looking at but I have to find out about my Ileostomy reversal Surgery, etc. So I don't know when I will start?
You will have to let me know how things are going for you. And any other news you can share about the Ileostomy reversal, etc. What surgery complications did you have?
      I wish you luck.

Hi, I was diagnosed with rectal cancer in Dec of 2011. I then started Xeloda pills and radiation for 6 weeks. Then had surgery to remove what was left of the tumor. I ended up having a temporay illeostomy and just had surgery in August to reverse that. I will be starting the folfox chemo regimen on Sept. 19th. I have read and heard so much about the side effects of this chemotherapy and am scared to death. If you have any info I would appreciate hearing anything about your journey with this cancer and treatment you have undergone.
    Thank you

Hi, I was also diagnosed with colorectal cancer in December of 2011. I have had chemotherapy with Xeloda pills along with external radiation followed by surgery to remove tumor. I was at stage III. I had a temporary illeostomy with my surgery and had it reversed on Aug. 15th. So I am still healing up from that. I will start folfox chemo on Sept. 19th and am scared to death of the side effects. Have you done any of this treatment yet and if so how has it been. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

How did today go with the new chemo? I am actually still in the hospital for for my initial tumor removal surgery. Had surgery on Aug.29th. There were complications with surgery. I worry about the side effects as well. My mom has MS, and she lives with the tingling. It doesn't stop her though, so I will do the same. How is the ileostomy reversal going? I worry about that the most.

I have stage III rectal cancer, diagnosed in Dec. 2011. I went thru chemo pills and radiation followed by surgery to remove tumor, and had a temporary illeostomy, which was reversed last month. I am due to start iv chemo in a couple of weeks for 6 months. Wondered if anyone else has gone thru this and what the outcome and side effects were. I think the chemotherapy I will be doing is called folfox.

You might want to consider reading through the journey of @CarolLHRN. You have pretty similar stories, with a few differences. But many similar aspects.
