Hi mrsc. I went through the I 131 treatment in January 2012. I set up my bedroom so that I did not have to leave it for the 5 days. I borrowed a small refridgerator and also put a small microwave, TV, and an electric griddle in my room. I am fortunate that I have a bathroom in my room so I did not even have to leave for that. I used all disposable items (paper plates, plastic silverware, etc. and had garbage bags in room to dispose them in. The doctor all so gave me a list of things to do such as change/wash bed sheets daily (separate from other laundry), shower twice a day, flush the toilet twice each time it is used and keep the cover down, new pjs/clothes daily(again wash separate from other laundry). My doctor also gave me medication to take the first 3 days to help protect my salivary glands. This made me slightly nauseous but it was bearable. I sucked on lemon drops constantly and that did help. Once I was out of isolation I just cleaned my bedroom and bathroom as usual. The website www.thyca.org is a great resource!! I wish you the best and try to have things to do during your isolation. It gets very boring!!!! I had my kindle to read, and the TV and computer. Laptop was a great way to keep in touch with the outside world!

I just had my treament on August 28. I have just cleaned things with antibacterial wipes, but will be cleaning my bathroom with a spray cleaner with bleach. Luckily, I have my own bathroom. Have told my grandkids not to get on my bed or use my bathroom for a few more weeks. My hardest part was to stay so isolated from everyone for one full week. And I still do not cuddle the grandkids. Have sour candys on hand, they really helped with the dry mouth. You will probably be told to drink a lot of water- helps flush that stuff through your system. Try to eat, but if you can't, maybe try protien drinks. I was told to put a sheet over my favorite chair and only sit there, for a week. Because you can was a sheet easier than upholsery.

I have been thru the I131 three times. I do not was everything everyday. If you are the only one touching things. I wear gloves if i touch things my husband uses. I use my own bathroom and bed for 12 days. I went thru old photos, cookbooks, computer and alot of reading on cancer. Natural strategies by russell Blaylock,M.D. is very good.

Any suggestions on how to get through I 131 treatment? What kind of solution do you use to clean surfaces that have been touched ie;;sink, shower, toilet and so forth? I will be going through this therapy soon, and I want to be prepared as much as possible. I know everyone body's is different..just need ideas of sour things to help produce more saliva, and things to do to pass the time. Thanks
