I have had no problems with my port, and it has been functioning for eleven years despite the way I treat it. Like right now, I've forgotten to get it flushed, and it's been six months without being flushed.

I have had 2 ports installed at different times. The first was there for 3 years, took it out...had a recurrance, new port put in...still there 3 years later. No problems. makes my semi annual scans much easier. Only maintenance is a port flush every 5-6 weeks done at my Onc's office. Eventually, will have it taken out.

I can't imagine treatment without a port. Some people don't like them, but I've had no problems and am planning to keep it for awhile. Inserting it was easy. A light twilight sleep made the process painless, and I didn't have any complications after the insertion. Good luck!!
