Procedure or Surgery (Mastectomy): I had a bilateral mastectomy and a single stage reconstruction procedure done at the same time. I was not having radiation (the data/research for my diagnosis indicated radiation would not change the survival rate for me) this allowed me to have my reconstruction right away. It was rather amazing to come out of surgery with a breast of sorts which was comforting both emotionally and physically.
In my thinking, I spared myself another whole surgery. I was out of the hospital in a little over 28 hours, my choice. I wanted to be home with my family and felt pretty well. I took two painkillers that night and really didn't need anything more...I was blessed in my recovery. Lot's of people were praying for me..
