Other Care (Home care): Visiting Nurses Association - Nurse came out 3 time a week for the first two of the five weeks that I was home. Then came out once or twice a week as my recouperation moved forward. Drainage tube and incisions were checked and bandages changed. Having a visiting nurse come to the house helped us avoid making frequent trips into the doctor's office and allowed my husband to work worry free.

Decision Point (Therapy - Type of Therapy & form of Drug Administration after Mastectomy): Consulted with Medical Oncologist on final treatment decision before having mastectomy surgery. Decision was made to have TCH (Taxol, Carboplatin, and Herceptin, and no radiation as there would be nothing to radiate.
Suggestion was made to have a medport inserted in chest after recouperation from surgery by the Surgical Oncologist. Medport would help avoid being poked in the arm and scar tissue building up in the veins.

Other Care (Hospitalization): Hopitalization after lumpectomy and mastectomy. For some reason I don't remember my time in the hospital after the lumpectomy (chemo brain?), but remember my time after the mastectomy. Nurses and doctor's were wonderful, the food was unappetizing. Lots of restlessness when awake and annoyed by being attached to an IV and the pole, especially when i had to get up to do anything. Hospitalized for 3 days, then sent home with instructions and told they had arranged for a visiting nurse to come to my home every two days to check on my incisions and drainaige tube.

Procedure or Surgery (MRI Tissue Needle Biopsy): Surgical Oncologist sent me for an MRI tissue biopsy and markers for wire localization to help diagnose the cancer and to determine how much tissue should be removed during the lumpectomy.
