I have been on the lookout for others who are triple positive and close in age to myself for many months now. Although I had always hoped to find similar women who are ahead of me in their journey, here is my chance to be a support to someone who is newly diagnosed. I was diagnosed with triple positive IDC in Nov. 2011 when I was just 33yo. I had a 4,5, & 7 year old at the time. I went through 6 rounds of THC (Taxotere, Carboplatin, and Herceptin) treatment and continued the Herceptin treatments for the full year. I had a mastectomy on my right breast in the spring of 2012 with the placement of a tissue expander. I underwent 28 rounds of radiation that summer. I had DIEP reconstruction rhe following spring, in 2013. I began a regimen of Tamoxifen that Nat also. Just when I thought my journey was just about over, my 6 month MRI showed 2 areas of interest of my LEFT breast! Although they were unable to find these areas again with different testing methods and I was told I didn't have to recheck for 6 months, I decided that I didn't want to go through the agony of a false positive again and decided to have my left breast removed in the fall of 2013. I just had a TUG flap(newer surgery)reconstruction performed last week and am currently recovering. If I can be of support to you in any way, please let me know. I was always looking for others to answer questions for me ahead of each piece if my journey. I would be happy to be that person for you. Know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and stay positive!!

I just saw that you had no responses. I'm not familiar with your surgery. I had the DIEP. Hope everything went well for you and you are recovering w/o too much discomfort.

TUG flap surgery is done mostly on women who do not have enough abdominal fat or may have had a previous tummy tuck and are not good candidates for more traditional DIEP, TRAM flaps and for other additional reasons. The inner thigh fat, which has good blood supply, is used in the TUG procedure but it is not, to my knowledge, as widely used as the above mentioned procedures.
You have, by now, had your surgery and I would love to know how you are doing. Maybe someone else will have questions about the surgery and you would be a big help in guiding them. Hope you are doing well. Best wishes and God bless. Grace
