Decision Point (Don't know what to do with the rest of my life.): I always wanted to do more. Went to nursing school at 63. Planned on a year in long term care then hospice. But it took a year to find a job, then had to quit after 5 months for treatment. Now time is short. Feel like I am treading water. I finished treatment mid September and still am not strong enough to return to work, even if my chemo brain was working well enough. What if this is as good as it gets.

Side Effects (Fatigue (tiredness)): Fatigue and pain were my worst side effects. Joints especially. Hair loss. Shortness of breath and neuropathy get better with each passing weak. Chemo brain persists and am afraid to go back to work as a nurse - afraid I'll miss something and cause harm to my patients. Not quite sure what to do with the rest of my life.

Radiation (External radiation ): The radiation was doable. Minimal skin problems. some burning at the clavicle which subsided when we gave it a rest and came back to it later. Joint pain persisted from the chemo, so I still walked like an old lady.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): After the first treatment, (adriamycin-cytoxin) thought I could do this. Only sick for a few days. Had dense dosing. With each treatment the side effects lasted longer. Although I never vomited, I was so weak, felt like I was going to pass out when I climbed the stairs. Short of breath with no stamina to do anything. By the fourth treatment the side effects lasted three weeks. Then with the taxol - nulasta I started with bone and joint pain. Needed Percocet to sleep and advil throughout the day. Developed neuropathy in hands and feet. Legs would go out from under me without warning and everything hurt. We (my doctor & I) decided to not have the last infusion of Taxol.
