Decision Point (Time to stop treatment): The cancer had spread to my mother's skull, and the presure on her brain had caused the seizure. There was nothing left to do so we had to make the decission to end treatment and let her go. There was a miscommunication between the doctors and when we talked to the oncologist who had treated my mother the entire journey, she got furious at us for giving up. The oncologist was not aware of the fact that the cancer had spread so far and believed that there were still options. A nurse helped us all calm down and made us sit down to talk. We found out about the miscommunication and the oncologist more or less hunted down the doctors who failed to inform her. In a way it was a comfort to have the oncologist stand up for my mother, she honestly cared about her patient, but it caused some very painful moments. My father basicly had to beg the doctors to let his wife die and that should not have happened.

Appart from that miscommunication the care was wonderful. The nurses especially were just amazing. They treated my mother like a human being even when she was in a comma. They made my mother as comfortable as possible with high doses of pain meds and the end was peaceful.

Oh No (Cancer has spread/Metastasized): My mother started acting strange and was in pain so my father called the doctor and she was taken to the hospital. There she had a seizure and she slipt into a coma. My father called me to ask if I could come home so I flew to Europe with my oldest daughter. We made it to the hospital in time and I believe my mother reacted when I talked to her. She was obviously in pain and we think she was scared.

Radiation: Radiation was hard, but the staff at the hospital were so sweet.

Celebration (Cancer is shrinking): The tumor got smaller, but an operation still wasn't possible.

Drug or Chemo Therapy: My mother went through chemo and seemed to react okay.
