Celebration (NO CHEMO FOR ME!): I had a low score on the Oncotype DX test. I was randomized to the hormonal therapy group of the RxPONDER clinical trial. I am on my way forgetting about cancer.

Decision Point (I was unsure that chemotherapy would benefit me. Wanted second opinion.): A lot of research showed that chemotherapy may not benefit my type of breast cancer. My oncologist only wanted to proceed with chemo. She did not want to order Oncotype DX test, or if she did, would not consider results. I looked for a second opinion, and also found a clinical trial.

Clinical Trial (RxPONDER. Phase III trial compares chemotherapy followed by hormone therapy to hormone therapy alone.): This clinical trial is for patients with node-positive, hormone-receptor positive, HER2 negative breast cancer who also have low to intermediate Oncotype DX recurrence scores. It aims to answer the question: "what are the benefits -- if any -- from adding chemotherapy to hormonal therapy after surgery?"
I read a lot of research that is beginning to show that chemotherapy may not be beneficial to luminal A breast cancer (ER/PR +, HER-, low grade). My Oncotype DX score of 16 predicted the same benefit from hormonal therapy alone, to chemo plus hormonal therapy. I entered the trial to help researchers gather more data for future patients struggling with the same decisions.

Hi Potpie. I just wanted to let you know that experiences are not seen by the general population here at WhatNext. So if you have questions like this, I would suggest you post them under the questions tab rather than experiences, so other with see you questions and provide responses.

Procedure or Surgery (Breast Reconstruction (Implant)): Currently dealing with tissue expander. It's not horrible, but it does limit me.

Procedure or Surgery (Axillary Lymph Node Dissection): One sentinal lymph node had a micro metastasis found in the follow up pathology after surgery. I had to have this as a second surgery. There was no cancer found in these axillary lymph nodes. This surgery was more debilitating than the mastectomy. Had seroma drained twice, it was very painful. I am still trying to regain my range of motion.
