I only met with one PS and he only talked about TE and then implants....I knew about lat flap but did not want that long of a procedure...and as I learned more I was not a candidate for some of the other procedures....I think PS only discuss the types of recon that they do. I am okay with my recon...in clothes I look like a small chested woman....what more can I ask for!!!

Has anyone "not" been notified about breast reconstruction options?

It is a law that you are offered reconstruction if you have a mastectomy due to cancer. I did not meet with a Plastic Surgeon until after I completed chemo. My oncologist and surgeon, both recommended that I not be reconstructed during chemo. I did not qualify for the Flap type surgeries so I started on Feb 15th with TE and will have the implants placed on July 18th.
At first the TE's are not comfortable but the longer you have them the better it gets. My muscle has stretched but my PS wanted the skin to stretch more. It has not been a bad experience at all. I will say that the pain the first few days after the TE's were put in was worse than the mastectomy pain. Good luck with whatever you decide to do. -

My surgeon did not discuss any options but told me to see a plastic surgeon for any and all info and that the law required that insurance cover the cost of reconstruction or breast forms and mastectomy bras if I chose no reconstruction. Intuitively I knew I didn't want reconstruction. I never went to the plastic surgeon to be guilted into reconstruction and I've never regretted it. Good luck.
