Decision Point (Surgery or radiation !!): Surgery was the best option for me because the cancer was fairly close to left edge of prostate. Also, I did not like the side effects of radiation treatments. I felt that the side effects of surgery were, for want of a better way of putting it, better.

Celebration (Other): PSA tested 0.16 No cancer detected. May this be a trend!

Side Effects (Bladder problems): Down to one pad a day. I am very hopeful that I'll be able to put the pads away in the not to distant future.

It is now five months after my surgery and I have finally regained continence. I feel very lucky in that I heard it may take a year or more.

Procedure or Surgery (Robotic assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy): Was only in the hospital overnight, and I thought I had it made. The next day I went home feeling pretty good until, without warning, I could not control my bowls. Embarrassing and messy. The laxative I used really didn't agree with me and told me so with a vengeance. I was cramping and passing gas for about a week. After that, I really was not feeling all that bad. As of this writing, I still have ED and I still have to use a pad a day for the incontince. ( a few drips a day at this point)
From what I've read so far, my story is fairly adverage. Not the best it can be, but (thank God) not the worst either.

Oh No (Diagnosed): I was actually stunned when the doctor called and said that I had prostate cancer. It is a smack in the head to realize that it CAN happen to you.
