I had stage 2 ovarian cancer and my oncologist told me to stay away from anything that has estrogen in it.

If breast cancer runs in your family, estrogen related products are usually not recommended. It depends upon how long and how much you are taking.

RosebudLisa, hello I am on oncology nurse that specializes in gyne cancer so let me address this issue. Vagfem is an estrogenous estrogen therapy which means that is is absorbed only locally and not systematically so it wont circulate into your system. It is used to replace a weaker form of estrogen (there are actually 3 types of estrogen produced in the body) in the hopes to help with lubrication and also to soften scar tissue related to radiation treatment making that tissue more pliant. It is safe because it is the weaker of the three types and so even if it did get into the system (unlikely) it is such a low level that it is harmless. Many exogenous estrogen therapies are synthetic which means they only mimic estrogen and have estrogenic characteristics. When used as directed, they are indeed safe. I hope this information is useful to you, Carm RN.
