I had diverticulitis with a preferation in Oct 2011. I had stomach issues for a year, discomfort, some weight loss, but nothing major. Docs kept saying I was eating food that irritated my bowels (diverticulitis).
Went for routine colonoscopy in Sept 2012- 5 cm mass, and 2/16 lymph nodes involved. Stupid Gastro, blamed my diet, until he found the mass!

I didn't have any symptoms to speak of. Once in a while I'd have a stool that I figured was due to Mexican food or something.
Like CarolLHRN said, attitude has a lot to do with things. Even if you look at stats, someone has to be in that group that beats it. Why not you? -

Hey don't be giving up that easy. They told me 2 1/2 yrs ago i would be lucky to make it through surgery has been very tough at times but have been very blessed to have more time with my family. Find treatment read up on it if it sounds like you can handle it then go for it. Good luck to you and point that mind in a different direction.

Does anyone know someone with colon cancer that spread to brain that survived more than 1 year or just know someone in the same situation?

Here is a video on an interesting new treatment. Seems to be that brain cancer was their first focus. Not sure if metastases to the brain is in the works, but it's worth an inquiry.

My wife was diagnosed with Stage IV colon cancer with KRAZ mutation almost three years ago April. The mutation is not one that is conducive to a good prognosis. She has beaten the lowest odds but faces an uphill battle. The metastasis is the same as yours: liver and lungs. The current treatment you are on is what she has gone through also. In the last two weeks she had a caniotomy to remove a tumor at the base of her brain near the cerebellum which was causing dizziness, nausea, and change in behavior. They will be doing a direct laser radiation to the surgery site to reduce the re-occurrence rate.
As I have told my wife, keep moving forward. Find a great support system and doctors you feel comfortable with. They will see you through the low lights and give you great confidence at the highlights. Best of luck to you.
