Sorry to hear this. Central Nervous System Lymphoma can be a challenge. Is he being treated at an NCI designated comprehensive cancer center? Or at least, is his hematologist consulting with the experts at such a center? Challenges require expertise more than luck or wishful thinking. Methotrexate (MTX) is the go-to drug, as it crosses the blood-brain barrier. Yet, there may be new drugs or combinations that can be administered intrathecally, or clinical trials that show much promise.

I took methotrexate for Rheumatoid Arthritis, not cancer.
Sorry to say that it gave me COPD, so please be aware of the side effects of this drug. It did nothing to help my R.A.. I only took it for a short time, but the side effects were almost immediate.
You might want to discuss the side effects with your doctor, and be aware of any changes in your lungs.
      Stay strong!
