Many hospitals have nurse navigators or patient advocates who can help with the paperwork, also financial advisors. If her facility does not have these resources, contact the American Cancer Society or Cancer Care or the Patient Advocate Foundation. I would also suggest calling Y-Me, a national 24/7, 365 day hotline for breast cancer patients. They can give her a list of resources in her state and she will talk to a trained breast cancer survivor. I know it is difficult to deal with your mom's illness long distance. The National Cancer Institute has a free booklet about being a caregiver long distance. Good luck to both of you.
