Stacy, this last time I was diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma. I had two operations to remove a tonsil and surrounding tissue. Followed by another operation ( radical neck disection) Treatment was only radiation. I was told the cancer type didn't respond well to chemo, so only radiation. first was told that I couldn't have the radiation since I had been treated with radiation in that same area some 20 years earlier. Later the team decided I could have the treatment. I had 25 treatments. This round of radiation was much harder on me than the previous treatments 20 years ago, combination of getting older now, and getting double treatment on the area. Still not as bad as chemo. Recovery from neck disection is still ongoing after almost 4 years. Initially, I had to sleep sitting up, drainage in my throat kept me from laying down. Severe pain from nerves growing back, extreme problems swallowing, still. My neck is stiff from the operations, scar tissue, and being treated with radiation stiffened up the tissue. It's been a ride for sure, but I am still here fighting and kicking. I guess I get a little better each day, but it is slow.
Good luck with your journey through this, I wish you the best!

Do research on your type of cancer. Keep a list of all drugs / treatments. Make sure your insurance knows what is happening.

I had similar, not the same, I had a tonsil that was malignant, removed. Along with a 3" section of tissue around it, and 29 lymph nodes in a radical neck disection. Let me know if I can answer anything that may help you.
