I had a tumor in the nasal cavity removed in 2012, followed by radiation and chemo. The eye was affected. I recommend you go to at least a general ophthalmologist before treatment to establish a baseline and a surveillance plan and to learn symptoms requiring immediate attention. I have seen a cataract specialist, a cornea specialist, an oculoplastic surgeon, a retina specialist and a neuro ophthalmologist.

They told me before surgery that they did not know if I would keep my eye. Sorry to hear that has already been ruled out.

I received radiation and chemo in February and March of 2011 for cancer of the base of the tongue and am back to running. My advice is to follow doctor's orders and to stay as active as possible to minimize the risk of side effects other than the inevitable ones. Your feeding tube will be your best friend and will save your life so you will need to be comfortable using it. See a speech and language pathologist while you can still swallow because preparation may speed your recovery.

Side Effects (Skin changes): The radiation made my neck redder and redder and I was advised not to shave because my skin would be too sensitive. To this day, the only beard I have below my jaw is a narrow band in front. The skin on my neck was at its worst about two weeks after the end of my radiation. It was red and peeling and even if I washed it gently it would bleed a little. It did not hurt but the nurse who showed me how to wash it said most guys would have yelled.

I too have very little beard left. I have been using Bio oil on my neck since last year and it is surprising the great results. Please feel free to ask me anything. I am here for you.
