Praying for your that your surgery goes well....many people here holding you up right now. I would certainly be freaked out if I received such news...but life will still be good. Give yourself some time to adjust...no one is prepared to hear a cancer diagnoses, and it is overwhelming enough even without losing such a vital organ. Don't know if this helps, but I used to know a guy who lost an eye due to a lawn motor accident...you could never tell he had one, until he took the eye out at parties to play quarters. Bless you & keep us posted on how the surgery goes.

      Hello,
My right eye was enucleated a few years ago. I'm sorry you are going through this. What kind of doctor is removing your eye? An ocular plastics person might not cut the trigeminal nerve. My right trigeminal nerve hurt for about 3 or 4 weeks after they took out the eye. Apparently, it's not a common mistake, but it happens. Maybe less than 1 percent. One day, the pain was gone, I weaned down the narcotic medication and got off and then realized i didn't feel anything on the right side of my face...well, very little. Years later, I still feel almost nothing. My bottom lid was sagging so much after a year that I finally went to an ocular plastics guy to sew up the bottom lid so my prosthetic eyeball would quit rolling out of my head and freaking out my patients (I also do family practice and the irony does not escape me). Anyway, the plastics guy was amazing!!! So maybe consider an ocular plastics doctor to remove the eye if at all possible. You can do this. I was terrified and it made me angry and I hate pain medication because of the constipation, but it worked out in pretty much all ways, pun intended.
