      What does your doctor suggest?

I can't tell, has genetic testing been done and you are waiting on answers? That could make a big difference in treatment options. Depending on what they find, you could be a candidate for targeted therapy and get to skip traditional chemotherapy.

      Best of luck!

LiveWithCancer, they don't use targeted therapy for stage IIA. That's mostly stage IV. With stage IIA, you should be going for the cure. Either neoadjuvant chemo and/or rads and then surgery. If lymph nodes are involved, this would be normal protocol. If lymph nodes are not involved, then it would be surgery with adjuvant chemo after. Do you know the type?

they are planning on starting her next Monday on a combo carboplatin and alimta ? they are doing amother biopsy on a second lymph node this Friday and then depending on what that shows -she may be bumped up to stage 3 .shes pretty scared because the one chemo drug they are planning on using has some serious neuro side effects for people over 65 and shes 73 so we are curious if there isn't something more appropriate for her age group -she does this combo every 3 weeks for 4 treatments and then they plan for surgery to remove the two affected lymph nodes and probably the nodule in the right lung as well .I'm trying very hard to convince her to get a second opinion butas of yet no luck .
any advice would be helpful -as I stated in my profile I'm a stage 4 melanoma fighter whos been doing a clinical trial of keytruda for the last 4 yrs and plugging along and stable
so I am semi familiar with the cancer field and have had to be my own advocate and just want the best treatment for my mom as well
