Other Care (CT/PET scan): Have learned all about PET scans now---did you know the current standard is to always do a CT scan without contrast first, and the "overlay" the PET scan after that? Amazing, right? Had last week. Awaiting results, as usual...

Decision Point: Saw local Oncologist who is in the same group as my Urologist and Surgeon. He has ordered PET Scan because I want to know how many tumors I have before deciding on lung surgery or treatment. Only if my insurance approves, of course. And, I have to wait 6 more weeks since I just had a CT scan 6 weeks ago. In the meantime, I'm trying to keep a good attitude and be good to others in my life. I like the Oncologist, but have done research and found the James Cancer Center in Columbus, Ohio, (close to home) has a kidney cancer clinic. They are affiliated with Ohio State University, so this may be an opportunity to get a 2nd opinion and perhaps better informed treatment, since renal cell carcinoma is so rare. Don't want to offend the Oncologist though. Not sure what to do.

Hi Susan. I'm in Columbus. Even though I went to Riverside instead of OSU, their facility is amazing. You have to do what is best for you. My cancer was found during a hernia repair @ Riverside, so they set me up with "their" oncology people. I freaked. Until I met the surgeon, and I stayed w/OhioHealth because of him. Interview doctors & pick the one you click with, who has the credentials you need and are comfortable with. Good luck!

Do not be afraid of getting a second opinion. My friend actually got a second opinion and the doctor saw where her treatment could be tweaked and the two Dr. have worked together and learned from each other. My friend has been cancer free for nearly 5 years.

Keeping you in my prayers. Don't let your insurance jerk you around.
