This has been going on almost 7 weeks, does it make everyone feel worthless and like your losing your mind?

      Hi Suzanne,

I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis and that you're having difficulty finding support. I was diagnosed in October of 2010 and for me, it took a good year to feel like I was back on my feet emotionally. My support, other than family & friends has been online communities - mostly this one, but also most recently WTF (Where's the Funding?) for Lung Cancer (www.wtflungcancer dot com). Also, Being Cancer, Lung Cancer Alliance, and GRACE (all of which you can google). There are a lot of us out there who are going through or have gone through the same things and who are more than willing to offer advice and support.

This is the toughest thing I've ever had to do, but it can be done.

We're here to help as much as we can.

      Warmest thoughts & prayers,

      Ruth

It is tough, no doubt, but just know that you are not the first one to go through this, you wont be the last. It hits all of us hard, some worse than others. The mind is a powerful thing. You can let it make you think the worst, or look positive. some people say positive thinking is a bunch of XXX and doesn't help cure your cancer. Well, all I know is, you can think the world is coming to an end, and wallow in your sorrow's, gloom and doom thinking, etc. but what does that help? Is it going to make anything better? I choose the positive mental attitude approach. It certainly won't make you any worse. "what the mind of man can conceive, and BELIEVE, it can achieve." Another thing I have found going through cancer 3 times, just when you think you have it so bad, go to the chemo clinic and set for a while, you will see your not so bad. I hope you get some support from friends and family, that helped me the last time bunches. I wish you nothing but quick, easy, treatments, and speedy recovery!!

Suzanne your mind, as you are finding out, is not your best friend. Sometimes I wish I could do what they do on facebook and "de-friend" my mind. ;(

Staying busy and helping others is how I cope. The harder I focus on others, the less my mind is able to trouble me. My faith, as a Christian, is vital to me.

Writing about this journey also helps me and it gives people I know a place to stay informed so I don't have to keep repeating the good and the bad news all of the time. Writing also helps me sort out my thoughts. It has helped me focus on Living rather than dieing. You can get a free blog in a lot of places, but I like Wordpress.

I think everyone goes through a whole range of emotions, and that's perfectly ok. I'm going to suggest you also post this in our Questions section so you get more feedback. You can do this by clicking on the "Ask Network" link on your logged in home page or the "Questions" link at the top of this page. When you post needs/questions using our question feature, we route your question to everyone in the network who might be able to help.

Hang in there, we're here to support you.

I was recently diagnosed with small cell lung cancer stage 4, I am scared out of my mind.. but with time comes acceptance. I would like my friends if they can to support me in my choice to do relay for life May 4, 2012 in hopes that the amount I raise will maybe help someone else' s family not go thru what mine is right now . We need to work together to find a cure. I love each and everyone of you and only wish you the best in life. XXXOOO

I was in the hospital for 9 days because sodium was so low. I really only remember getting to the emergency doors and later being gassed for biopsy. I do remember getting chemo for 3 days and family in my room, but not much else. I am scared out of my mind.., don't know what to expect other than go for chemo every 3 weeks and blood test week after chemo.
