Celebration (Anniversary): My mastectomy was one year ago today. I had an office exam at 6 months, and recently completed my one year mammogram and evaluation. I was very anxious about that appointment, but everything looked fine. I will celebrate by taking a lap with other Survivors at Relay for Life next weekend!

Your diagnosis sounds almost exactly like the one I received one year ago....DCIS, stage zero. I am 63. I had a single mastectomy and did not need radiation or chemo. My 1 year check is next week. You can follow my journey on this site, and I will be following you as well. Best of luck! I'll be hoping you have the same positive outcome!

Did the single mastectomy require a plastic surgeon working with the general surgeon? Or does it only require the general surgeon? How was the result? I will be following your journey. Hoping you will have continued good health

I only saw a general surgeon, but she did a wonderful job and I have a very neat scar. I did use a product called Bio-Oil on it for a long time, and that helped. I opted not to have reconstruction. I wear a prosthesis, and that has worked out well for me. I'll be anxious to hear about your plan for treatment. Good luck and hugs!
