Celebration (Remission): Haven't been on for awhile? I am now cancer free for almost a year. Had speech therapy before being able to ear again after Ivor Lewis surgery. First after being diagnoased I still could not eat. Had stent put in and it dropped down becoming life threatening coughing up blood. Removed and had Ivor Lewis. Still was unable to eat or sip water until after speech therapy. Now able to eat almost normal. Just had my 3rd CT Scan since and still no cancer.

There are some tumors that are treated with radiation and/or chemo, if they're in a nonoperable area. I don't know if a person can be 'cured', but managed with this type of treatment. I work with someone who is stage IV and she just goes from one treatment to another, managing her illness, because there is no cure for her.

The Profile says surgery was cancelled because they found small tumor under the arm, so possibly lymph nodes are involved.

Tanseyj, what can we say to help?

Please get a second opinion. It also looks like your insurance is giving you a bad time. The LIVESTRONG Foundation you can get information at this link:
http://www.livestrong.org/we-can-help/ Be sure to write for their Guidebook and Journal.
You might also phone the Cancer society.
Survival means you MUST be proactive!!
      Prayers for your success

Oh No: No surgery, now radiation again denied by Insurance as it would injure my tissues?

Was diagnosed with EC end of Sept 2014! Had about 3 months chemo and 28 radiation treatments. Was scheduled for operation when I discovered a small lump in armpit! Biopsy showed malignant! Had PET Scan and showed no metastasis. But still residual disease in Esophagus! Still say I can never have the operation! Insurance refused more radiation (claimed it would damage the tissues?) and waiting for more chemo (probably delayed by insurance?). I have a feeding tube. Wondering where I should go from here! My oncologists are great!

      Hi Folks
Lets find out where you can get a second opinion this would be my next step.Your insurance won't ok a scan, well you need to find the Navigator assigned to the Medical facility to put pressure on the insurance companies. They can help patients navigate thru these situations. Have they changed the stage from 3 to 4?
I was stage T3N1M0 that means I had local lymph nodes looks like yours aren't considered local. What are your staging numbers.
I got a second opinion and went with it 13 years ago but my staging was T3N1M0.
