My husband has had two chemo treatments. This one really bad. He has these horrible leg pains and can't take anti inflammatory so walking and getting up is something he cannot do by himself. It's been very scary. Our local hospital said oh sorry you have pancreatic cancer and have three months. In fact after going to Cancer Treatment Centers it is sclc and they did not give us a death date. I need so much support and help for him.

Hi Sharon,
My name is Vicki and I too have stage 3b non small cell.. No surgery for me as it was too risky with tumor too close to arteries .. I did go through 33 radiation treatments and 4 rounds of chemo. I did fine until last 2 rounds of chemo when I really got worn down but minimal sunburn effects from radiation. That was completed in April of 2011. There are lasting side effects for me as far as loss of energy and desire to do much outside the house as I watch our grandchildren 5 days a week. If you have any questions I am here or just need to vent ... Let us know your updates ...I have a scan this Wed and will know if tumor is stable or growing.... This is always an anxious time for any of us waiting is the hardest part... Positive support is always needed!!!!!!!2 Comments-

Hi Vickie and Sharon, My name is Marlene I am a stage IV lung cancer survivor 2 x's 2years so far YAY! Any way I just raised my head when I heard you say how tired you were from the radiation, now I know why I feel like this. I am soooo tired. I went through radiation for the tumors that they removed from my brain in 2011. I also had a tumor the size of a softball removed from my right lung along with 2/3rd's of the capacity of lung removed along with it. As far as side effects from the Chemo (Cysplatin) . I have been left with incessant ringing in my ears, pins and needles in my feet, thickness and thinness off and on in strange places in my hair, and the "bottom" of my feet swell at night so that in the morning when I get up to walk it's unbelievably painful. But I have to tell myself "I'm alive" right?

After two years of weighing 130 to 147 pounds (I used to weigh 110 to 119 at the most ( : Well I am finally starting to lose weight. My sister gave me a puppy. I HAVE to get up every 2-3 hours and bring her out to go potty. Works for her and me also. I have lost 10 pounds this first month. We have started to walk about a half mile at a time. Thought I'd share that idea.

It's hard to grasp that you were given the wisdom you needed at just the right time.. I too have good insurance and only pay a portion of the hefty cost. In our area they do offer assistance to people....Having cancer is bad enough but thinking about being a burden physically and finacially to your family is an awful thing to go through. Proof that God is there...Live each day to the fullest......praying all goes well. My last scan yesterday shows lung tumor now scar tissue and I guess that means remission.. I am still in disbelief!!!

I too am living with a tumor still present stage 3b non Small Cell my tumor is staying at 3.4 cm unless I hear different at today's appointment.. What is second line chemo?

my understanding of second line chemo is that it is chemo given after the "gold standard" (first line chemo) has been completed, but it has been determined that that chemo has not completely done its job. for me, i did a full treatment of Taxol, Avastin, and Carboplatin and then did a maintenance round of Avastin alone. after 6 weeks, the scans showed that the Avastin wasn't keeping tumors from growing, so i did a second line of chemo, Alimta.
i hope your scans are clean and you get to get off of the chemo train soon! best to you!
