Hey Carm, mom has been on hospice for about 6 wks now. For the past 5 days she has not been eating, I can get her to drink a few Boost through the day but NO food, not even soups that she loves. I know this is part of the journey , how long would you say she can go on like this ?

Woops.... didn't make it clear. My mom is at my house, not in the hospital. LOTS of trouble sleeping, we are not using hospice yet.

You can purchase an inexpensive mattress topper at Target, BedBath&Beyond or Walmart ($20 on up.) The inexpensive egg crate foams are very helpful. Alternately, ask her doctor to prescribe one, and see if you can get it through Durable Medical Equipment on her insurance.

This last round of chemo made my skin hurt. For the life of me I could not get comfortable. The sheets I had regardless of material seemed hard and rigid. I found some sheets on eBay that are a synthetic material that is the eqvialnt to 3000 thread count. They are like water, so smooth and soft it's amazing. I paid like 34.00 for king sized. I had a goose down comforter that I put over mattress but under fitted sheet which made things softer and cooler. I tried various foam covers, several actually. I just got to hot on them. Hospital beds are just rotten, never comfortable. The mattresses are usually plastic, gets hot, it's rigid and makes noise every time you move. Kinda keep in mind, your home washing machine needs to be able to handel whatever you decide on or you will be going to laundry mat. Next to nutrition and hydration rest is probably the next important thing on the list. Without it she is going to be miserable which in turn will make everyone else miserable as you are probaly finding out. Check out ebay see what you can find there. Also just washing sheets in something that smells pleasant can aide in quality sleep.
