Oh No (Cancer is back/Recurred ): After being 4 months post op from a prophylactic double mastectomy (encapsulated Breast cancer was found) and a failed DIEP reconstruction, my belly is swelling an an unknown module has been seen in my abdomen. I had a biopsy done last Friday. Praying it is not a recurrence.

Other Care (Home care): Due to staph infections in my abdominal incision from the DIEP, I endured 3 months of wound care. A wound vac works well, but is a pain.

Loss (Hair loss): All of the stress, surgeries, emergency procedures and antibiotics co,boned with 24 hours of anesthesia caused a lot of my hair to fall out. It is referred to as overall thinning of your hair. Not fun!

Loss (Body part/function): As hard as I tried to have a nipple sparing double mastectomy, and my breast surgeon rocked at it, my plastic surgeon was unable to save my nipples. I had a DIEP reconstruction and contracted staph from the mesh. That resulted in 4 large open wounds, two long hospital stays and more IV antibiotics than I'd like to say. I also lost my right Breast flap, a second one was constricted, but due to infection, the flaps were never finished. Due to all the stress and antibiotics, I also lost a major amount of hair.

Side Effects (Allergic reaction): I had a lot of allergies to antibiotics. That was not fun. I still have scars from unconscious scratching.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Pain medicine): Luckily the Breast cancer was encapsulated. So, I didn't require chemo or radiation. However, pain ,eds and anti nausea meds were required. 4 months later, and I still need a pain pill at night. But during the day Advil suffices.
