    After the Aftermath of Cancer

On September 15, 2010 my life changed completely, I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer. I was in complete shock and afraid of leaving my young son behind without me. I was told that my only option was to have a double mastectomy. I believe that we all have options and that we should not allow fear to paralyze us. I became my own advocate and opted for three and even four opinions, they all said the same thing. Since then I have been fighting for my life and I have been through a lot. I have had an incision biopsy, a lumpectomy with lymph nodes removed, radiation, and in the mist of this chaos, I also had a stroke in June 2011. Needless to say that my journey has not being easy.On January 9, 2012 I had to go for scans, CT Scans, MRI, and bone scan to see where the cancer was after all the treatments. On January 10, 2012 my oncologist told me that my scans showed No Evidence of Disease, which means I’m a miracle and that is not common for women with my type of cancer to have NED. Although my infusion treatments of Herceptin are every 3 weeks with scans and mammograms every 4 months is still ongoing. I Believe that all the prayers that were said on my behalf were heard and God is given me a second chance in life. With this second chance I have changed my eating habits and would like to get to a regular “normal” life the one that Cancer took from me.

I have lost 40 pounds and I'm so proud of myself. I began by working out 10 minutes a day. That was all I was able to do with all the weight I had gain with the chemo treatments and my body had been through XXX and back to say the least. Now I work out 5 days a week and have regain most of my strength back. I'm on a healing journey and feel grateful to God for all his mercies and his love. I still have a lot of more weight to loose but I'm happy.
