I see that the link was truncated. What I did was type Leukemia AML into google and found a number of site that offeredy symptoms, treatment options, etc.

My mother, 88, was actually happy when the oncologist recommended against chemo for her pancreatic cancer. It can be hard to let go, but I wouldn't want to see her made miserable for her last few years. It sounds like you are doing the best possible for your mother.

My mother passed away 11 years ago from AML at the age of 80. I was privileged to have been able to stay with her with the help of hospice so she could remain at home as she wished. Mom just seemed to get weaker. She used her time after diagnosis to "get her things in order." She made phone calls and said her goodbyes. It was a fairly kind death. She did experience some headaches, but we had morphine for pain and an anti-nausea medication. She went into a coma the last 24 hours then passed peacefully with my daughter & I holding her hands.

we ( including Mom,) would like some guesstimate of how long we can sustain her with transfusions. also what symptoms are in store?

My mother passed away from acute myeloid leukemia. Once she quit the blood transfusions, she passed fairly quickly, I would say within weeks. This was 11 years ago, so my memory may be a bit off. We had the help of hospice & I stayed with her. She was 80 years old. She just seemed to get weaker and she did have some headaches. She was given morphine and another pain medication and an anti-nausea medication. In the end she went into a coma for about a day and passed peacefully.

I wish you God's guidance on this... May he ease her discomfort at leaving, your pain at losing, and may He welcome her to His kingdom when the time is right.

we are all concerned about the time she has left. we understand a simple infection can be lethal, but with transfusions to sustain, how long can she continue?
