My husband just had genetic testing (Invitae Diagnostic Testing). They tested 47 genes and his results were negative, meaning that he will not be able to try the 2 drugs recently approved by the FDA.

Not the same as Genomic Sequencing testing..Genetics looked at 47 Genes he carries... sequencing tests for DNA tumor markers or mutations and most favorably done with tissue sample if solid tumor...Foundation Medicine CDx panel tests for over 326 tumor mutations and matches you to a database of effective precision targeted therapies, or clinical trials, if it's a blood cancer it can be done with a blood or liquid test

Hello Whitey61 - I'm Carol and caretaker of my husband who has prostate cancer, Stage IV - he just went thru genetic testing, waiting for results - Greg said you might have some info about that subject. Where is the best place to read about this test prior to talking to the oncologist about the results. My husband just had his 4th Docetaxel chemo. In another couple of weeks we have a telemed call for a second opinion....

Hello, big difference between Genetic , testing for Somantic Germlines in family DNA Genes to determine risk factors for specific forms of cancers one may develop in family bloodlines.. Genomic Sequencing is done on any Tumor pathology available from prostate cancerous tissue or biopsy matieral..it is Sequenced to determine the DNA mutations he may carry in the tumor.. I suggest Foundation Medicine CDx panel that tests for over 325 Mutational markers and matched what it finds to a database of effective treatment therapies and ongoing Clinical Trials..I am a patient advocate for Foundation Medicine and Cancer Research Institute for the Advancement of Immunotherapies, and a retired Medical Biotechnology Researcher in Immunocytometry if I can help.

We do not have the test results yet. When we do, we'll know more about exactly what test they ran.
