Procedure or Surgery (Implant chemotherapy port): The chemo port was incorrectly placed and instead of being placed correctly immediately, my husband was left in recovery for 13 hours. He was the first one in in the morning and the last one out in the evening. The surgeon was anxious to get going on her Christmas vacation, so she replaced the original port with a new size (unexpected) and only gave my husband a local, instead of an IV cocktail. In addition, she put the stomach port in, but the attachment at the end was incorrect and we are still dealing with flushing the feeding tube with that port and how difficult it is to remove.

Side Effects (Fatigue, bladder problems, mouth sores, etc.): See previous information. The fatigue with chemo, the fever that spiked was draining. I hope this works to kill the cancer cells because it has been so ridiculous and much more than we were told he would experience.

Radiation (External radiation ): He looks worse than a burn patient with weeping sores on his neck and sores on his lips and in his throat. We were told it would look like a bad sunburn. This is SO much worse. If I knew it was going to be this bad, I would have researched and come up with a plan. Nothing has been done, but to put an OTC cream on his neck and rinse his mouth with water, baking soda a salt solution. Online, they have cream for radiation and cooling packs so things don't get out of hand like my husband's situation has done. All they do is offer him narcotics. He isn't urinating and it hurts when he does, so I would call this a UTI, but not his radiation oncologist!

Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): "Nurses" did not use pneumo-boots and my husband developed pulmonary embolisms and has to take warfarin for the rest of his life with weekly check-ups now and monthly check-ups later. The surgeon was very good,
