I can only talk for myself but I did not take a break and did not have any problem. Someone else that I know had problems with taking the BCG and got the to reduce the amount and has been clean for two years now. From what I understand the length of the treatment and the amount of BCG given is an educated guest only. But then I am the patient only!

As it turned out, I did not need to take a break between treatments. I had cystoscopy/biopsies 4 weeks after the last BCG treatment and fortunately, all the biopsies were negative. I had almost no side effects from BCG treatments. I will be starting maintenance BCG treatments in the fall. Onward and Upward! Thank you for all your comments.

Support groups for Females with bladder cancer in Boston area?

      Dear Yoseffah,

Hi, I'm Aliza, a BC patient and the site's unofficial resident Medical Librarian. I'm wondering if perhaps your best bet would be to contact Dana Farber (ask for one of the social workers) to find this information since they're one of the best treating institutions for Cancer in the country and they're in your backyard, so to speak. Another option is an online support group called bcandotorg (had to spell it this way so it wouldn't be redacted)., but you can also google or use one of the search engines to see if you can find a group in your area that meets in person.

      Good luck in your search!

      Warm wishes,
      Aliza

      Aliza,
Thank you so much for your response. I have not been able to find any groups in the area - I am being treated at the Lahey clinic which is the best hospital for urological cancers - it is not something that either Dana Farber or Mass General focus on - so, other than prostate cancer support groups, there really aren't any services available. The truth is that 75% of patients with this type of cancer are older and male. I just thought it would be nice to see if I could find other female patients going through this too.

      Many thanks,
      Jill
