Hi Carm-thanks for your wall posting. I have not been tested for receptor status..I guess that's what I'm saying. I am going to ask my surgeon about this when I meet with her on 11/27. I was told I'm at stage 0 DCIS and will not need chemo if I go with the mastectomy. I am so dreading that surgery and reconstruction surgery because I live alone and fear I won't be able to continue to do all my daily activities. Thanks for the website and I will surely check it out. :)

Zdarx7, I can understand your concern. When you are DCIS, or Ductal Carcinoma in Situ stage 0 you are really saying that you have pre-cancerous cells in the lining of the duct. DCIS and LCIS (lobular) are usually non invasive but DCIS does have the capacity to become invasive. At stage 0 the treatment is usually, surgery, a lumpectomy or a mastectomy and really mastectomys are not as bad as you think. You go home within a few days and are instructed not to lift anything heavy for awhile but if this is still your concern, you need to ask your oncologist what other options beside the mastectomy could be possible. Perhaps she might suggest another option if she thinks you are apprehensive. You must also find out what the plan is after a mastectomy. Some oncologists will radiate a bit just for good measure. If she suggests a chemo, then what type? Some chemo's are in pill form and quite mild, for DCIS, I can't imagine it will be anything to rough. Best of luck and Happy Thanksgiving to you. Always remember that in this battle, you never realize how strong you are until strong is the only choice you have, you will suprise yourself, Carm

Decision Point (exhaustion-): Saw three surgeons who told me the same thing, explored clinics in Mexico, threw money at useless information sites...even looked at clinical trials

Oh No (Diagnosed): Still in denial-the frantic journey for information had begun. Needed to avoid surgery if at all possible.
